Competition
terms & conditions
1. Promoter
The promoter is Intercontinental Brands (ICB) Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 02468418, with registered office at Murdock Road, Middlesbrough, TS3 8TB (the “Promoter”).
2. Eligibility
The promotion is open to residents of England, Scotland and Wales aged 18 or over, excluding employees of the Promoter, its associated companies, agencies, SEE Turtles, participating retailers and anyone professionally connected with the promotion, together with their immediate families or households.
The winner and their guest must both be aged 18 or over at the time of travel. The Promoter may require proof of age, identity, residency and eligibility before confirming the prize.
3. Promotional Period
The promotion opens at 00:01 on 1 October 2026 and closes at 23:59 on 31 January 2027, UK local time (the “Promotional Period”). Entries received outside the Promotional Period will not be accepted.
4. How to enter
During the Promotional Period, an eligible entrant must purchase an eligible Hawksbill Rum bottle carrying the promotional neck hanger from Sainsbury’s in Great Britain or Amazon.co.uk, or receive such a bottle as a gift. Only bottles supplied with the promotional neck hanger for this Costa Rica conservation adventure qualify. Not all Hawksbill Rum bottles sold by either retailer are promotional bottles. Promotional stock may become available at different times during the Promotional Period, including later on Amazon.co.uk, and is subject to availability. An Amazon listing or purchase of a standard bottle without the promotional neck hanger does not qualify. To enter, scan the QR code on the neck hanger or visit hawksbillrum.com/conservation-adventure, complete the online entry form and answer the competition question in no more than 50 words. If you purchased the bottle, upload a clear image of the original itemised Sainsbury’s receipt or Amazon.co.uk invoice or order confirmation showing the eligible Hawksbill Rum bottle and qualifying purchase date. An Amazon.co.uk order must have been delivered with the promotional neck hanger before an entry is submitted. If you received the bottle as a gift and do not have the purchaser’s proof of purchase, instead upload a clear photograph of yourself holding the eligible bottle with its promotional neck hanger attached and visible.
Purchasers must retain the original itemised receipt, Amazon.co.uk invoice or order confirmation and provide it if reasonably requested for verification; a bank or card statement is not proof of purchase. For the photo exception, the photograph must clearly show the entrant and the eligible bottle with its promotional neck hanger attached and visible. The entrant must be the only identifiable person shown in the photograph, and no person under the age of 18 may appear. Internet access is required and normal internet/data charges may apply.
Any photograph submitted under the gifted-bottle exception will be used solely to verify the entrant’s eligibility and to administer the Promotion. It will not be published, shared publicly or used for advertising, marketing or promotional purposes. Photographs will be handled in accordance with the Promoter’s Privacy Notice and applicable data protection legislation.
Entries with missing, unclear or altered evidence, or entries that are incomplete, fraudulent or otherwise non-compliant, may be rejected following reasonable verification.
5. Entry limit
A maximum of one entry per person is permitted during the Promotional Period. Each qualifying receipt, Amazon.co.uk invoice or order confirmation may support one entry only, regardless of the number of eligible bottles shown. Each eligible promotional bottle may support one entry only, whether entered by its purchaser with proof of purchase or its gift recipient under the photo exception. The purchaser and gift recipient must not both enter using the same bottle. Entries must be made by the entrant personally and in their own name. Entries made through agents, third parties, automated systems, organised groups, consumer clubs or multiple accounts are prohibited.
6. The Prize
There is one prize for one winner and one guest: a Costa Rica sea turtle conservation adventure for two, with a total maximum value of £8,000.
Subject to availability and agreement of the itinerary, the winner may choose either (a) to join an existing scheduled SEE Turtles Costa Rica conservation trip, or (b) to develop a private Costa Rica conservation itinerary for the winner and their guest with support from SEE Turtles.
Whichever option is selected, sea turtle conservation must form a fundamental part of the itinerary. The prize cannot be used solely for a general leisure holiday.
The prize value of up to £8,000 may be used towards return economy flights to Costa Rica, accommodation, agreed ground transportation in Costa Rica, the conservation programme and associated agreed activities, and meals provided as part of the conservation trip.
SEE Turtles will work with the winner to help develop the conservation itinerary and may provide guidance and assistance with appropriate travel arrangements, including flights. Individual elements of the prize may be booked or provided by the Promoter, SEE Turtles or relevant third-party travel, accommodation and activity providers, as appropriate.
Meals, accommodation, activities or other costs incurred before or after the agreed conservation trip are not included unless expressly included in the agreed itinerary.
The £8,000 is the maximum total value of the prize and is not a cash allowance. No cash or other payment will be made in respect of any unused portion of the prize value. If agreed arrangements cost more than £8,000, any excess will be the responsibility of the winner.
Unless expressly included in the agreed itinerary, the prize does not include travel insurance, passports, visas, vaccinations or other health requirements, UK transfers to or from the departure airport, personal expenses, spending money, optional excursions or other costs not expressly stated as included.
The prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, may not be resold and there is no cash alternative.
7. Booking, travel dates and availability
The winner must contact SEE Turtles, select their preferred trip option and confirm their booking by 31 December 2027.
Travel must be completed by 31 December 2028. The winner and guest must travel together.
All travel arrangements, dates, accommodation, activities and conservation experiences are subject to availability and agreement of the itinerary.
Because the prize is centred around sea turtle conservation, the timing and content of the trip may be affected by seasonal and environmental conditions. Travel during the main rainy season, generally September to November, should be avoided. SEE Turtles will work with the winner to identify appropriate travel dates.
Once arrangements are confirmed, changes or cancellation may be subject to the applicable conditions of the relevant travel, accommodation, conservation and other suppliers.
8. Conservation experience and wildlife
The conservation experience is an essential part of the prize and must be included in the winner’s itinerary.
The exact conservation programme and activities available will depend on the time of year, weather conditions, wildlife activity, local conditions, safety considerations and the priorities and requirements of the conservation project at the time of travel.
Sea turtles are wild animals. Sightings of turtles, nesting, hatching, releases or participation in any particular wildlife activity cannot be guaranteed.
SEE Turtles and/or local conservation partners may change or substitute activities where reasonably necessary for conservation, animal welfare, safety, weather or operational reasons.
The winner and guest must comply with all reasonable instructions intended to protect wildlife, local communities and the environment.
9. Travel documents, health and fitness
The winner and guest are responsible for ensuring that they hold valid passports, any required visas and all documentation necessary to enter and leave Costa Rica and return to the United Kingdom.
The winner and guest are responsible for checking and complying with applicable health, vaccination and entry requirements and for ensuring that they are sufficiently fit to participate in their selected itinerary.
Conservation activities may take place in remote or rural locations and may involve walking on uneven terrain or soft sand, boat travel, heat, humidity, rain, insects and other outdoor conditions. The nature and physical requirements of the selected itinerary should be considered before booking.
10. Travel insurance
The winner and guest must obtain appropriate comprehensive travel insurance before travel, including cover appropriate to the destination and activities forming part of their itinerary. They may be required to provide evidence of appropriate insurance before departure.
Unless expressly included in the agreed itinerary, the cost of travel insurance is not included in the prize.
11. SEE Turtles participant requirements
Once the winner and guest have selected and confirmed their trip, they may be required to complete SEE Turtles’ applicable registration documentation and agree to participant terms, safety requirements, waivers and other reasonable requirements applicable to the selected itinerary.
Local operators, accommodation providers, transport providers or activity providers may also require the winner and guest to accept their applicable booking conditions or participation waivers as a condition of providing particular services or activities.
Nothing in this clause makes SEE Turtles responsible for every element of the prize or for services supplied by independent third-party providers.
12. Changes to travel or itinerary
Travel and conservation itineraries may need to be modified because of weather, wildlife activity, safety considerations, local conditions, transport disruption, supplier issues or other circumstances beyond reasonable control. Where reasonably practicable, a suitable alternative will be offered.
The nature of conservation work means that a change to a particular activity, location or wildlife experience will not in itself entitle the winner to a cash payment or refund, provided the overall conservation nature of the prize is maintained.
13. Judging and winner selection
All valid entries will be judged on the answer to the question: “In no more than 50 words, tell us why sea turtle conservation is important to you.” Answers will be assessed for originality, relevance to sea turtle conservation and strength of response. The entry that best meets these criteria in the judges’ opinion will win. A panel including at least one demonstrably independent judge will assess entries within seven working days of the closing date. The judges will be competent to assess the entries, and their full names will be made available on request. If entries are tied, the panel will compare the tied answers against the same criteria to decide their ranking. The panel will also rank reserve entries. The Promoter will retain a record of the judging process and decision.
14. Winner notification and verification
The provisional winner will be contacted using the details supplied with their entry within seven working days of completion of judging and must respond within 14 days of first contact, providing any reasonably requested proof of identity, age, residency, eligibility and the entry evidence required for their chosen proof-of-purchase or photograph route.
The winner is not confirmed until all required checks have been completed. If the provisional winner cannot be contacted, does not respond within the stated period, fails verification, cannot provide satisfactory entry evidence for the route used, or cannot accept the prize in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, the Promoter may offer the prize to the next highest ranked eligible entry, subject to the same checks and response period.
15. Winner information and publicity
The winner may be invited to participate in reasonable publicity relating to the promotion, but participation in publicity will not be a condition of receiving the prize.
The confirmed winner’s surname and county will be available for 30 days after confirmation by request to dataprotection@fortitudespirits.com. The winner may object to or request reduction of publication, although the Promoter may still provide relevant information to the Advertising Standards Authority where required.
16. Personal information
The Promoter is the controller of personal information collected for the Promotion, including entry and contact details, purchase receipts and, where applicable, photographs submitted under the gifted-bottle exception. Personal information will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation and the Promoter’s Privacy Notice at www.hawksbillrum.com/competition-privacy to administer and verify the competition, contact the winner and arrange and fulfil the prize. Submitted photographs will be used solely to verify eligibility and administer the Promotion and will not be published, shared publicly or used for advertising, marketing or promotional purposes.
Information reasonably necessary to arrange and fulfil the prize may be shared with SEE Turtles and relevant travel, conservation, accommodation and fulfilment providers.
Entry into the promotion does not constitute consent to receive marketing communications.
Entry information and photographs will be retained for 30 days after the closing date of the promotion and then securely deleted unless a longer period is reasonably required for legal, regulatory or dispute purposes. Access to submitted photographs will be restricted to those who need it to verify eligibility and administer the Promotion. Further details about how personal information is handled, including retention, recipients and entrants’ data protection rights, are provided in the Promoter’s Privacy Notice.
17. Responsibility
The winner and guest are responsible for ensuring that they are legally and medically able to travel, meet applicable entry and health requirements, and comply with the reasonable requirements of the organisations and suppliers involved in their itinerary.
The Promoter is not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete, corrupted or not received because of technical or network failure beyond its reasonable control. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
18. Cancellation, substitution and circumstances beyond reasonable control
If circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter make it necessary to cancel, suspend, amend or substitute an element of the promotion or prize, the Promoter may do so where reasonably necessary and will endeavour, where practicable, to provide an appropriate alternative of equal or greater value without unfairly disadvantaging entrants.
Material terms of the promotion will not be changed after launch unless circumstances beyond the Promoter’s reasonable control make this unavoidable.
19. Disqualification
The Promoter may verify entries and disqualify any entrant who breaches these Terms and Conditions, supplies false information, manipulates or attempts to manipulate the entry or judging process, acts fraudulently or abusively, or otherwise seeks to obtain an unfair advantage.
20. General
By entering the promotion, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Entrants may bring proceedings in the courts applicable to the part of Great Britain in which they reside.
